A perspective to modern medicine
“Modern medicine has made great strides in the last few decades. But some of the greatest strides have been found to relate back to rather simple things: ‘What you eat, what you drink, what you think, and what you do.”
Interestingly these are the very same elements used by traditional healers who are shunned by most modern day doctors. Given that the mechanisms of pathophysiology of the human body is better understood by modern practitioners than doctors practicing alternative medicine, but on the other hand we tend to overlook the centuries of experience they have at their disposal.
Learning medicine in the early centuries took place in the form of apprenticeship, a prehistoric form of residency which residents undergo today. People may argue that residency and apprenticeship are different. Yes, there are differences between the two, but the roots of residency lie in apprenticeship. During the residency period we learn the art and science of medicine under an experienced person who guides us through this wonderful journey of the art of healing thus enabling us to gain experience and knowledge.
The idea of this article is not to show that traditional healers are better than modern medicine practitioners but to try and give some credit to these people and the astronomical experience they carry and in this process to also learn a few things from their toolchest albeit after thorough research.
